DASS Mountain Property

HAWKEYE owns an option to purchase a 100% interest in the DASS Mountain Property which is a high grade copper (Cu) and silver (Ag) property centered 31 kilometres west-southwest of the city of Campbell River, located on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.  The DASS Mountain Property which totals 1,268 hectares (3,134 acres) overlooks Upper Campbell Lake and is situated at 49°56’N and 125°42’W within the Nanaimo Mining District.

The DASS Mountain claims are located in a mineralized mining district on northwest central Vancouver Island are situated approximately 35 km north of the Myra Falls Mine (click to view map) which has been producing average ore concentration of 5.4% zinc (Zn), 0.5% lead (Pb), 1.0% copper (Cu), 45 g/t silver (Ag) and 1.3 g/t tonne gold (Au) since 1966.  The DASS Mountain Property is also situated approximately 150 km south of the past producing Island Copper Mine (BHP Minerals) which was located sixteen (16) kilometres south of Port Hardy.  The Island Copper Mine was a 50,000 tonnes per day open-pit copper mine that opened in 1971 and closed in 1995.  More than one billion tonnes of rock was removed from the open-pit and the mine produced metal concentrates containing more than 1.3 million tonnes of copper (2,705,800,366 pounds), 31,000 tonnes of molybdenum (70,569,657 pounds), 31.7 tonnes of gold (1,133,878 ounces), 336 tonnes of silver (9,455,712 ounces) and 520 pounds of Rhenium.  By the time the mine closed in 1995, Island Copper was the third largest mine in Canada and had remaining reserves estimated at 23.4 million tonnes grading 0.33% copper (Cu), 0.02% molybdenum (Mo), 0.16 g/t gold (Au) and 1.2 g/t silver (Ag).

Type of Target

The DASS Property hosts interesting new discoveries of vein and stockwork-type copper and silver mineralization which were only discovered because of examination of forestry road-cuts.  These veins warrant an aggressive drilling program to try and locate their bedrock source.  An attractive target would be a large stockwork system with sufficient size to warrant low-cost open-pit mining.

Access

  • Vancouver to Campbell River – approximately 45 minutes by air or 1.5 hours by ferry ride to Nanaimo, then a 45 minute drive to Campbell River
  • Campbell River to Property – approximately 1.5 hours by vehicle via Highway 28 west from Campbell River and then on logging roads.
  • Logging Road Access – there are numerous partially de-activated logging roads that provide excellent access to the claims (shown in map below)

Infrastructure

Accommodation, supplies and drilling companies are available locally from Campbell River and Courtenay and supplies can also be accessed from Vancouver. Water for drilling is available on the Claims and the BC Hydro power grid is adjacent to the Property.

Physiography

The property lies on the first mountain range west of Campbell River.  Elevations on the claims range from about 450 to 1500 metres.  The majority of the claims were logged about 20 to 25 years ago and the forest cover consists of second-growth willows, alders and conifers.  The climate is somewhat drier and milder than most of central Vancouver Island because the claim area lies in the rain shadow of the Insular Mountains that form the spine of Vancouver Island. The weather typically consists of wet winters with snow at the higher elevations, and warm, pleasant summers which makes the Property accessible for approximately 9 months of the year for exploration and drilling.

2011 Property Visit

During 2011 the Company made a property visit to the DASS Property and took a total of thirteen (13) rock samples from the Property that were submitted to Acme Labs in Vancouver for analysis.  Assay results received from Acme Labs for the 13 rock samples reported copper (Cu) values ranging from 1.079% to as high as 20.761% and silver (Ag) values ranging from 0.4 to 43.1 g/t. The table below indicates assay results for values received on a per sample basis.

2012 Work and Drill Program

HAWKEYE plans to do excavator trenching of the mineralized veins on the DASS Mountain Property to better understand the orientation of these veins for follow up drilling. HAWKEYE anticipates that it will perform approximately 750 metres of drilling on the Property and  drilling should begin in May or June of 2012.  The Excavator will also be used to re-clear roads for access to other mineralized showings on the Property and to clear-cut new roads for exploration and drilling purposes.
